INCANTATION
Jennifer StJohn, founder of The Fusion Group, had a profound impact on so many lives. There was a sense of magic about her. She brought passion for life into every place she entered. Those of us who had the opportunity to be with her, found her sense of excitement contagious.
Jennifer was a consummate entrepreneur, businesswoman, and counselor. She was a powerful ally, helping clients find their voice, identify a firm’s purpose, make an argument, close a deal, and build a plan. She created Fusion, not only as a business, but to reach people and help them achieve their best.
Her words created magic. She touched you and made you think of things in a new light. We recently uncovered one of her manuscripts, titled “Incantation.” Let her words work their spell on you…
In every story about sorcery, there is the magic spell uttered with secret words. The apprentice must learn them. The master must teach their superb use and also pass on the regret of excess. The words bend reality as we know it. In actuality, the sorcerer was only able to access a level of physics others could not. Aside from wands, orbs, dolls, swords, cloaks, amulets, ropes and other everyday instruments, the power of the incantation came simply from knowledge — and breath.
Everyday language is incantation we take for granted. The right words bring you a cup of coffee. They seduce someone to undress and make love to you. They can establish global businesses. They can still war to peace. They can give a child lifelong confidence and goals. They can provide meaning to the confused. Our breath makes magic happen many times each day.
With such power, we should take some time to think about our abilities. There’s no question that we provide constantly for ourselves. Take some time to give your breath to others.
Speak for the helpless. Speak the truth. At every opportunity, speak: “Love. Love. Love.”

It is fitting that our tribute to Jennifer StJohn ends with her paying tribute to all of us. In one of her hundreds of “Cornerstones” editorials, she shared these uplifting words about the world of business…
“Let us pay our respects to the honest labor of those of us who conceive things, sell things, buy things, make things and invest in things. If we stopped, the world might still be beautiful — even entertaining; but people would be hungrier, poorer, dirtier, not so well sheltered, not so well dressed, not so well equipped, and not so well transported. The world needs all of us craft people, to keep it turning.”
